I keep scrap papers, etc. nearby for this. Then I can use them later on for collage and other work.

I use one baby wipe to wipe my brush and only using a one or two brushes at a time instead of a bunch of them for one painting - it helped tremendously. I was the messiest painter for the first few years

Excellent tip never gave the cleaning up process much thought before, but that does make a LOT of sense, thanks :D

I have two water jars. I first wipe the brush with a paper towel, then dip in first water & swish, then sort of squeegee excess with fingers, then rinse with second water.
This was a tip from Golden on some random YouTube video, 😆
The main thing is getting the gooky mess off the brush with the paper towel.
Doing this also cuts down on what we’re washing down our drains and into the environment.

Budgets being the way they are, I like to reuse my paper towels from watercolor. And any used for coffee and tea aren't bad either. When they dry they work just as well as next time.

But..but...but.... making a mess is half of the fun isn't it?? I judge how much fun I've had by how much of my art supplies are on my hands, clothes, and face!!! If I'm still clean when I'm done then it wasn't a very good time!!! Also why I always use opaque nail polish... you can't see all the stains that way!! Cute little story, I have Crohn's disease and got very sick a couple of years ago. I was in hospital and the second time my son came to see me he said "thank god, you look like my mother again! I asked what he meant and he said when he saw me a couple days before I was laying in bed with my hair down and completely clean fingers, and a few days later I had my hair in a bun, glasses on the tip of my nose, and had ink stains on my fingers so only THEN did I look like his mother again!! LMAO
