im just beginning, still figuring out if i really wanna invest major time and money into learning mandarin. but man i cannot for the life of me properly pronounce 'renshi'. Its nice that chinese has simple grammar, but oh man are the words killer on my english speaking mouth. its like french all over again haha!

The confusion here comes from English, rather than Chinese: in English, "know" means two different things which are distinct words in most other languages. If I'm getting this right, the Chinese 认识/認識 renshi and 知道 zhidao corresponds more or less to word pairs in other languages such as kennen/wissen in German, connaître/savoir in French, conoscere/sapere in Italian.

at 0:50 you said Renshi works because it is talking about knowing the way to a place

however at 2:37 this seems identical to the other one. dealing with how to get to a place and Zhidau is used.
