I contracted epiglottitis at age 52, and nearly died from it. When I got to the hospital, they had to immediately put me on a breathing machine due to a severe infection of the epiglottis. I was in the hospital (on the machine) for 5 days. A very strong antibiotic (penicillin) was given to me. Remember, this is an extremely dangerous infection.
