Hey! I've opened a new video series about Formulae and simultaneous equations. This topic refers to GCSE Algebra section of GCSE Maths: formula rearrangements

In this video I will introduce the basics of formulae and represent a formula as an equation that connects several variables and express some low. Here I will use several examples where I show how the formula might be used to express a low of Physics or just simply states the fact how one variable is dependent from another one. I will show you a fast track for basic rearrangements and give you an idea how you can check that the expression for a subject variable is correct. Yes, I will use the Physical units method ( or just simply Method of units ) that will allow you to check correctness of a formula after rearrangements and don't fail

Quick TIPS:

A formula is an equation which connects two or more variables (plural formulae or formulas)

We can rearrange a formula to make one of the other variables as the subject of the formula. During rearrangements we have to ensure that the formula is still true and correct. If you use Method of units you will never be failed in formula rearrangement questions.
We rearrange formulae using the same processes which we used to solve equations.

The variables are replaced by numbers and then the equation was solved in order to define the value for the unknown variables. However, often we need to substitute several values for the unknowns and solve the equation then. In this situation it is quicker to rearrange the formula before substituting, and this what I encourage to do. That will give all necessary skills to think broadly and transfer that experience to other sciences like Physics, Chemistry or even Computer Science where you will definitely need it

When we derive a formula it is often useful to first test how the initial formula works with numbers: make sure that the formula after rearrangements will give you the expected value. Then, after rearrangements in general way check if the formula deliver the right units: basically apply units method to check the right formula construction. This double check will give you more confidence about the formula correctness

In this playlist we will consider equations with more than one unknown or variable. Any formula contains at least two variables: one variable as an Input and another one is an output. We will first try to consider formulae which describe the relationship between several variables and then we will be working on formulae substitution and formulae rearrangements. Next stop is to consider pairs of equations with two variables ( or even more than two depending on the problem ) which can be solved simultaneously to find the values of the unknowns.
