WTF IS THIS RIDICULOUS THING??

Guitar of the Day! Taking a quick look at the Danelectro Electric Sitar in Red Crackle. My first reaction was "why did someone take an '80s shredder finish from a BC Rich and slap it on a sitar?". Turns out, this is actually a reissue of one of Danelectro's most popular instruments of all time. The Coral electric sitars of the late '60s in Bombay Red had a crazy design and appeared on countless records from Santana, to Steppenwolf, to Genesis, to Elivis Presley, to Tom Petty, to Prince, to Pearl Jam, to... etc

I have this, along with actual traditional Indian, and Middle Eastern instruments. I mixed Indian and middle eastern style music into hard rock and industrial music back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. It was very original and everyone that heard my recordings loved them but finding rock musicians willing to play that music live was impossible. Everyone I talked to about starting a band to play love wanted to be like the bands at that time. It was very irritating.

These are crazy fun to play with. I’ve never played the Dan but I’ve run across the Vox that has a similar design philosophy. Really cool tones, would make a lot of sense for the right player.

You can see Robert Smith of the Cure using the original Coral Sitar in the film clip Fascination Street. He used it for quite a few tracks over the year.

Ive heard this many times on many songs but your telling my guilty pleasure band of my emo days (the All-American Rejects) used this? That surprises me, not to mention that i almost never hear anyone bring up All American Rejects up anyway.
