The Stanley Fax Max has an 1/8" cut in the nose of the tape. If a person doesn't realize that fact, it can create all kinds of confusion.
Love the video Vince.
Very comprehensive.
I've used the Fax Max for a lot of years

Fat Max not included? I stopped right there. Take a field trip to a job site!

You're 100% correct. Stop being brand loyal.

My Milwaukee tape measure filled up with junk that the blade was dragging into the inside (and getting inside the mechanics via that silly finger brake hole). I got tired of it, so I placed it on top of a tree stump and shot it.

I've been using a Harbor Freight HERCULES tape measure since then, I got it on sale for $10, and love it!

I prefer my Lufkin Shockforce G2. The neon green on the black is quite nice

I am a big time Milwaukee fan boy. However, I am seriously disappointed with their tape measures. The blades all twist about 12”. This causing them to not stay hooked when I grab an end of a piece of lumber. I have purchased 4 Milwaukee tape measures and they all got twisted. Nome of my Stanley tapes have this problem.

I've been trying literally every tape measure and my new favorite is Tajima strong tape.

Please help me decide between "Bosch GSB 185 li" and "Makita HP333DWYE" which are available in India at approx similar price of 11700 indian Rupee INR (approx 140 US$)
GSB 185 is brushless hammer drill on 18v batttery, vs Makita HP333D is a brushed hammer drill on 12v battery
Talking to Makita India folks they said DF332DWYE is deprecated and so entry level brushless option from Makita I don't have.
Bosch is pretty commonly available in India compared to Makita, so Makita brand is attractive between the two options.

I enjoy the komelon contractor series tapes. I use the stainless spring for trim and the fatmax lookin one for framing

Ultimate tape would be a fat max classic with the scale printed on the bottom off the tape and a revamped hook like the lufkin shockforce g2… maybe a fat max nite eye too.

Milwaukee compact is trash cluttered to read rusts in a week. The only tape I hate more is the tajima g25 overpriced mid tier tape that broke first time hooking a board.

They definitely Didn't ask around. They just chose what they like. Everyone knows Fatmax is king.

Should have actually performed a high drop test. The plinko board doesn't really give it the impact of a 25 ft plus drop. So your testing is good but incomplete.

I'm a total Milwaukee guy, but I have used many different tapes. In all honesty, the milwaukee 25ft stud tape is the best I've used imo.

Let's just rename this "The Milwaukee Olympics" 😅

Fast Cap lefty righty all day. Unless I'm framing, then it's a fatmax.

On readability, cover up the tape measures to ensure brand bias doesn’t place into someone’s opinion

I will say that Milwaukee was much better than the Dewalt when I used them. I wish Dewalt would update and bring back their XP with dual sided scales.

Milwaukee tapes look nice, unfortunately, they are very resistant to water, dirt, and scratches. Additionally, the retraction speed test is unnecessary because hitting the tape's end after several hundred hits will cause the measuring tape to become uncalibrated. I have owned tapes from Stanley and Dewalt for several years and would not switch them for Milwaukee. If you think otherwise, then do a test by retracting the tape using sandpaper with equal pressure on each measuring tape and then throwing them into water for 24 hours. Because this is comparable to real-life conditions.

If a tape isn't accurate out the box, should be failed immediately. Literally your only job is to give me correct measurements.

I love my Milwaukee compact and is my main one on the job but also have a Stanley Farman magnetic which seems to stay on the shelf at home. Maybe bought for the magnetic feature but somehow not confident that it would be accurate as the measure starts from the other side of the catch. This flashed out to me as a deviation I am not confident about and hence on the shelf. Also to note that with just over a meter drop test, the rubber housing has noticeable scuffing. Glad I don’t own a Dewalt atomic after seeing your deviation tests Vince! Now thinking to get the Milwaukee stud gen 2😂
