Tenkara is NOT dapping

There is a very common misconception that tenkara is simply dapping. In this video I wanted to highlight the method of fishing, as well as a few shots of casting with tenkara.
Tenkara is not dapping!

About the closest I come to this is using a 13'  extendable crappie rod with a section of 2' mono on it with a dry fly or a nymph attached to the other end in which I lower it onto the water surface and let the current naturally drift the fly into the fish. Our creeks are pretty narrow, you can jump across them in most places with some wider pools where the fish like to hold. Works pretty well for me. Especially when the fish are extra spooky.

If one is to dap however, this is the way to go. Best dapping rod there is, period. Dapping, everyone does it but no one wants to admit it.

I never discounted the merit of the video. Dapping is easy with tenkara specially if one is to fish off the banks, all depends on the length of the line.

Wow just to put the record straight Tenkara is not dapping they are like chalk and cheese. I remember dapping on the lochs as a kid with 25 foot rods with floss lines, sometimes we would change to blow lines and let the wind carry our flies from the boats to the fish, neither of these was depicted in the video all I saw was Tenkara.

In other words, instead of spending a few $ on a cane pole, you spend a lot of $ on store bought gimmics, and fish the same way. I'll stick with a cane pole, costs loads less for the same results.

That net is not for catch and release. It will damage the film on the fish. The fish will then develop that white crap and die.

I disagree. Tenkara is nothing more than dapping...just with a longer rod at a bit longer distance.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY TENKARA ROD!

I'm not sure why but it's been such a pleasurable experience since buying one last month. I fished for two hours and caught one fish - unlike regular reel fishing I didn't walk away angry, instead, trying to figure out ways to get better!

I was fishing with west fly fishing rod mor then  10 years, and few years ago i fishing only with Tenkara ...

my familyhas been dapping smokies for 4 generations.-done EXactly like this-
even used similar rod/line set up in 1940s .People seem to not understand what dapping fishing is
