If you put an Armorer on your tanning table the armorer will allow you to make thick hides from regular hides and twine.

To change the percentage for Titus you need to feed him different food. The exquisite meat is what's giving the 7% in two categories, try feral flesh or perhaps pork each will give a higher chance to level in other categories, not sure which though

I didn't think you were in the right place as on the map there is more river in the bottom left corner. However this covered most of my religion grabbing trip from sepemaru. I chose Derketo (way to th east and heavily defended) pick up Yog by noob river, then on the trip goto Murila's hope, Scuttlers whatever and Mel Khamoses' spire. Ymir has to wait untill I need black ice.

Spoiler Alert!!! I think the "fork in the river" is Noob River and the first river east of your old base.
