Should you visit Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic?

Punta Cana is probably the place most people think of when you mention the Dominican Republic. The most visited Caribbean island, the Dominican Republic, has so much natural beauty, and Punta Cana in the east of the country is famous for its all inclusive resorts and endless lush beaches. It’s also famous for its proximity to Saona island, rated one of the top beaches in the world, this is where you come to take a boat trip to the island! I decided to visit Punta Cana independently, renting an airbnb minutes away from the famous Bavaro beach, and spending a few days exploring this part of the DR, including Cap Cana and the famous Juanillo beach, taking a boat trip to Saona island where the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed and eating plenty of fresh seafood! At the end of my trip I decide whether I think visiting Punta Cana is worth it and is hyped up to all it’s said to be. Let’s find out what my conclusion is!

I went to Punta Cana in 2007. If staying at a resort is your thing, you will love it. If you want to see what life is like in the DR, you won't experience it like this. The drive in to the resort and the drive out to the airport was sobering. The people that worked at our Resorts were living a difficult life, that was plain to see.
