"Naturally, they are pretty surprised to find another space hedgehog there - and it isn’t long before a fight breaks out. Actually, fight might be a bit of a strong word. He’s about as fast as sonic BUT he can teleport and fly with his air shoes - giving him a HUGE leg up.
Not only that, but he is strong enough to block one of Knuckle’s punches, twist his arm, and then turn him into a human-pinball. And also Tails... is there!

Ultimately Shadow handcuffs sonic to a building and leaves him stranded until Tails shows up to free him. The trio of heroes regroups at a Chao Garden where they meet with Commander Walters. He quickly fills them in on Shadow’s story - though he leaves out the parts about Maria, Gerald Robotnik, and of course his own involvement in causing the explosion - instead saying it was Shadow’s fault and that a scientist was blamed for it.

This talk was interrupted when a squadron of Robotnik Robots attack - killing Walters in the process. With his last breaths, Walters entrusts Sonic with his Key to the Eclipse Canon. The rest of the group is saved by Agent Stone on a motorcycle who shows up to explain that Robotnik isn’t behind this attack and that he can prove it as he leads them to a giant robot crab fortress. Here they find that Ivo Robotnik is still very much alive after their last battle, however he has become overweight - spending all of his time sulking and watching telenovelas. Despite their past, Robotnik agrees to help them investigate who is using his stolen tech, as well as who Shadow really is."

Are you aware that not just Shadow possess chaos energy but also Sonic and Knuckles? Their main powers (Sonic’s speed, Knuckles’s strength, Shadow’s teleportation) are byproduct of their chaos energy and their electrical abilities are them tapping further into their chaos energy to enhance their physical abilities. Kiel Phegley confirms this in his novelization of the movies and the “Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Pre-Quill comics” show that Tails was tracking Sonic’s chaos energy signature.
