In each oven cleaning challenge we test different methods to find the fastest and easiest way to clean an oven. This is a tough job with lots of grease and baked on food that's been there for a long time. This tough job calls for the Dupray Tosca steam cleaner and Zep industrial strength degreaser!

Step 1: Remove oven racks and treat them overnight with ammonia. Turn on steam cleaner to heat up.
Step 2: Scrape out any food particles or loose debris inside the oven with a stiff brush. Vacuum it up.
Step 3: Spray everything with Zep degreaser and close oven door. Let sit for 20 minutes.
Step 4: Use the steam cleaner with the steel brush attachment and stainless steel pad to clean.
Step 5: Wipe down with a microfiber cloth.

A dirty oven can easily take an hour or more to clean. Can you avoid caustic chemicals that burn your lungs and skin? Can I get it down to 30 minutes or less? Do natural cleaning solutions work? How about a steam cleaner? What's the best way to clean an oven? At the end of my experiments, I'll create a video with my favorite method.

I've cleaned a lot of ovens, but never with a mission like this one!

We did this test with a steam cleaner and degreaser because I hate fumes from oven cleaner or the smell/pain of self cleaning ovens.

In the past I was a purist who only used a steam cleaner but now I use all the tools I can. I didn't even use the attachments for the steam cleaner.

The Dupray Tosca cleans with water heated to 315 degrees (steam) and pressure without damaging surfaces. Dupray also has the Neat which costs a lot less but I pulled out the industrial Durpray for this big job.

If you hire out cleaning an oven it's going to cost you $30 or more. So think of it as you're saving $30 an hour when you do it yourself.

I used the industrial degreaser because restaurants use it and this oven is super greasy!

For cleaning oven door glass, you should check the metal retainer on the top of the oven door when you open it. I'm not sure whether it's applicable on every cooker model, but on various models you open the oven door, lift the metal retainer up or slide it off (the white part on that cooker by the look of it). This gives you access to the the front glass plate so you can lift it out and clean inside. This is so you don't have to take the door off or use a fly swatter!

I use a different technique to clean ovens, yet your work still looks great! Definitely sold on the steamer.

Did you know you can remove the oven door in front of you? Just move the latch back on each side of the door and pull the door up and voila! After finished, you install the door back in the same way that you just removed it. Just don’t forget to move the latch's back into the original position. Have a great day!

Great idea to have the steel scrub pad on the steam cleaner tip, looking forward to giving this a go, minus any chemicals if I can!

Even an hour seems like amazing time! Or I'm just incredibly slow, lol.

My pressure washer trigger doesn't have a lock. I have a zip tie around the handle, just tight enough not to slide over the trigger when not engaged. When I want to lock it on, I pull the trigger down and slide the zip tie up around the trigger. When done, slide it back down. Wonder if that might help you. I'm tired of working for other people and trying to start a cleaning company for myself. Thanks for the tips!

If you really want to speed up cleaning safely, get some Kleen Green. They are natural enzymes and would clean it without a steamer. But the steamer will speed it up though. Great video

Did you have any issues with grease messing up the vaccum cleaner? I thought about doing the same but I'm worried the cleanup of the vaccum with all that sticky stuff will be terrible

60 year old ovens: Spray with oven cleaner. Let cleaner sit on surfaces for suggested time. Wipe mess out with paper towels or rags. Finish with a damp rag to remove any cleaner residue. About the same amount of mess and maybe less effort. Yes there are chemicals but it got the job done as well.

Question: Won't that vacuuming in the oven like that, make the inside of the vacuum greasy from all the greasiness in the oven?? I wouldn't WANT TO DO THAT TO IT, . That makes me think do you have a video of cleaning the inside of a vacuum hose??
