Once you have bought Merino and now he's proven not like a "Xhaka", the only options to test him are (1) sub for Partey and Jorghino as CM; (2) sub for Gabriel or Saliba. If neither works, he must be sold too. (And certainly both tests are risky too.)

Yes certainly try in Jan to get good striker(s) and rid of Sterling and Jesus. Also do recall how "aggressive" we were sending away ESR and Nelson. In situations like Everton, ESR and Nelson could have helped if still here. Both of them last season had brought goals when we were
