FZ-1w sounded like MT-2.
It's more like a distortion than a fuzz.

What a let down.

FZ-2 is the best fuzz BOSS ever had.

Stick to behringer SF300 for now.

I really like FZ1w the best and would be the most useful for me. FZ3 really sounded awesome gunned though that was a pleasant surprise.

Seen a lot of people bad-mouthing the FZ-3 on forums. Listening to this I think it absolutely rips! I would definitely choose it over the FZ-1W (FZ-2 being an octave fuzz is just a totally different "thing"). It's pretty unique sounding imo, somewhere between a tone bender and a big muff kind of sound. I also really like the mid-range focus of the pedal, which is rare in a simple 3-knob fuzz. Love it!

I could see myself using that hyper fuzz if my hair was super long these days (maybe even with an 80s perm 😆) and I played some heavy sludge. Alas, neither fit the bill.

Waza all the way...as per your review I thought it a very useable fuzz and likely a great pedal for those on the fence of fuzzland. Could be just the tonic to hop that fence.

The FZ-2 is a very unique and rare gem in the Boss fuzz units. It’s obviously influenced by grunge and Nirvana, it’s a fuzz on steroids. It was released in 1993 with the HM-3 Hyper Metal and the SD-2 Dual Overdrive. All three pedals failed to ignite the dirt box world. The FZ-3 is pretty tame but now very south after. I own both and love the FZ-2 and it’s great fun to mess around with. I don’t think I’d buy the Waza version as I’m not really into Fuzz. I bought them just to have them ten years ago when they were cheap and not sought after. Boss would never use the prefix “Hyper” again thankfully!

Nice comparison guys! The new FZ-1W sounds like a very cool fuzz, but that FZ-3 is brutal. You're just missing the FZ-5 now lol.

I like the FZ3 the best. The FZ 1 just didn’t feel like the fuzz I’d ever use and the FZ2, while legendary, is too much for my taste.

You’re not at a loss for the FZ5. It’s meh.

FZ3 comes 3rd with any guitar - that's a definite for me. Hyper Fuzz brings out the smiles and the acid, and has the added versatility of a clean boost, but get a Behringer SF300 (Hyper Fuzz clone) for around $50 and you can access another (hidden) 3rd fuzz tone setting, which is superior to the other two, therefore killing the Boss for versatility. The FZ-1w is the modern, 'sensible' Fuzz, you can take home to meet the folks and it sounds great. I would have liked to have heard BASS thru these, instead of the 2 extra different guitars. i reckon Gabor demo 1 x single coil gat, and Alex stick to 1 x humbucker axe, and either of you do Bass in future for a demo like this. (I tried a hyper fuzz on bass the other day and the band loved it.) Nice shootout lads ! Bang bang!❤

FZ-1w : sounds too much like a regular overdrive.
FZ-2 : very versatile
FZ-3 : most natural. Probably best for stacking with a boss eq.

FZ-2 was modeled after the sound of future dinosaurs attacking robot bears in a canyon of steel. I love it so.

I love all of these, but I admit that I'm a bit of a Boss fanboy...if I had to pick one, though, I'd go with the FZ-2. Mostly because of the versatility.
By the way, I'm pretty neutral on the Z vs. Zed topic, but I will say that Zed Zed Top just doesn't have the same ring...

Maybe follow up with how they interact with wah and univibe etc. Boss maintain it plays with other pedals nicely...
