Kelley Lincoln is a community reporter in southern Humboldt county 4 hours north of San Francisco, California. She reports for KMUD News and for an old-fashioned print-only small town weekly newspaper called the Humboldt Independent.

KMUD is a Pacifica affiliated community radio station-- broadcasting from the heart of the emerald triangle. KMUD is the people powered Community radio station that marijuana built. They have about 150 volunteer programmers broadcasting from an old farmhouse with the orchard still intact. A skeleton staff herds the programming cats and uses all their best chewing gum and paperclips to keep the broadcasts coming out of the radios and increasingly, the digital devices, of their listening audience.
In the early years of what has become a decades long drought in the west, Kelley focused deeply on water issues everything from the ecosystme management issues, the regulations of silt runnoff, the hydrology, the fish and what was then a brand new topic in the temperate rain forest of far northern California...water rights.
The almost never ending drought frog marched her straight into climate change and global warming.
In addition to producing reports for KMUD’s 6pm news broadcast, Kelley hosts Witnessing the Environmental Apocalypse on the 4th Tuesday of every month. She uses that opportunity to focus on the current era of Earth’s shifting climate.
She says, “Witnessing is meant in terms of a spiritual practice. Some might say ‘holding space’ or ‘sitting with.’ We are spiritual beings in a material form. The reason Truth is a Spiritual foundation, as that Awareness is our feedback loop to the creator, or to the universal consciousness. I am, in my small way, participating in that feedback loop. I endeavor to do it in a way that keeps fear at its minimal realistic level. This stuff is scary. Reasonable people are at least worried, but equally true is the fact that only love and optimism fuel miracles.”
