Welcome to this tutorial on how to calculate age in Power Query! In just two button clicks, you can accurately determine the age of individuals based on their date of birth. In this video, I will guide you through the process step-by-step.
To begin, make sure you have your data loaded. If you need assistance with loading the data, refer to the previous or first video in this series. The data we will be working with includes a column for the names of Indian cricket players and a corresponding column for their respective dates of birth.
Once your data is ready, select the column containing the dates of birth. Then, navigate to the "Add Column" tab and simply click on the "Age" button. This action will create a new column displaying the age of each player in terms of the number of days. For example, Ajinkya Rahane is currently 11,688 days old, while Ajit Agarkar is 15,525 days old.
Now, let's convert the age from days to years. In order to do this, select the age column and go to the "Duration" section. From there, choose the "Total Years" option. This will calculate the age based on years. For instance, Ajinkya Rahane is 32 years old.
If you prefer whole numbers instead of decimals, you can easily achieve this by selecting the decimal option (1.2) and choosing the "Whole Number" format. This will round off the age value. You can now see the ages of all the players displayed in whole numbers.
Once you have obtained the desired results, you may wish to clean up your data. To remove the age column, simply right-click on it and select the "Remove" option. If you want to add a suffix to the age column, go to the "Transform" tab and choose the "Add Suffix" format. This will allow you to customize the appearance of the age information.
Remember, the age calculations are connected to your system date, so the age will automatically update every year without any manual intervention. This makes it incredibly convenient!
