A few months ago Erin Parsons (has a YT channel that explores makeup) did a scientific exploration into lead based makeup used for the skin. Long story short (tho it is worth watching) it’s not an opaque white as depicted in movies and tv shows. It was more translucent and gave the skin a pale glowing effect. Anyone looking to reproduce that kind of makeup look should check her video for alternative suggestions. Erin is big on finding modern dupes for the historical makeup she collects.

In one of your previous videos you said something may not have been used historically, however it can become valid thru practice or intent (paraphrasing) so it's ok on one thing but not the other?

There's also room for innovation. Especially since we know so little. I believe that pure reconstructionism produces very little. But, of course, one must admit the difference and say what is or isn't historical, like you said.

Great video! Had to give a watch while getting ready for Texas Ren Faire.
