Thanks for reviewing. 😀 Also, they will deploy on their own but you have to be within "Ready to Lock" distance. I had to make this distance rather small otherwise it would try to play animations when you didn't want them to play. Its a bit of a useless feature I also just cycle On/Off to redeploy it for landing.

There were a couple of retractable landing gear mods that did the exact same thing - locked to the object etc. The issue with all of them came from lack of suspension, so unless you had it set to auto-lock, it would simply crumple under the weight of the ship after a certain size. Which made me start making custom landing gear from rotors, pistons and regular wheel suspensions with magnetic pads at the bottom xD

MA PocketGear is another working retractable landing gear mod and has apparently been around a couple years. Doesn't use Animation Engine, functionally it's like a rotor with magnetic plate on it, but with suspension apparently. The unusual thing about it compared to regular blocks, is that when placing one it has 3 parts to weld up. Base, leg, and foot. No automatic deployment, but event controllers could handle that.

Killer's blocks are some of the best I've used in space engineers. The VXM missiles, coilgun batteries, and iron maidens are my favourite weapons; they pack a hell of a punch, and their animations are just superb.

so its basically the opposite of the Mexpex gears witch have collision even if retracted. :)

Also weight of the engines would out weigh the front part of the ship :P So you wouldn't need front gears :P cost savings!
