Ranking Every Monstercat Release in September 2018

Amazing month overall. I will now temporarily stop making miscellaneous rankings like Artist Rankings, EP Rankings or even some Album Rankings. I will only post the new ones like Monthly ones and newly released compilations. It will be like this until maybe the end of the year. It has been a rough semester for me and I gotta put my priorities right, so sorry about that.

Reasonings:

#20- It seems that these types of songs would merely be interesting to me if I were to rave to it, which is something I never done before. It is just not an enjoyable song overall for me unfortunately.
#19- I like the idea of the vocals, but other than that, it is the typical chiptune Tokyo Machine style that I have grown tired about.
#18- This song gave me somewhat of a weird dilemma. I love the theme and the buildup so much, and the 1st and 3rd drops are pretty catchy. But I hate the main lead, the vocal samples and the screechy 2nd drop. Close to becoming a guilty pleasure, I’d say.
#17- We are already into to the songs that I like. Clapham Rain is beautiful, immersive and ambient, great interlude overall.
#16- Yet another Muzzy DnB, I have grown tired of his hard DnB songs, but I can’t deny the production is almost always well-executed, this is no exception.
#15- Am I the only one getting DROELOE vibes? The melody, production and vocals are just ‘okay’ to me. The somewhat tribal/retro sounding theme is what keeps me liking this song.
#14- Trivecta Riddim is something I should be afraid of, because I generally hate Riddim and I always prefer a melodic Trivecta. Luckily it did not give me such a conundrum like Falling, because at least this has a nice balance of Riddim and melodic.
#13- I don’t know if this is a compliment, but it sounds like something from “High School Musical”, so it gives me a lot of that “teenage days” nostalgia. The production is WRLD-esque, it is not amazing, but both of their vocals shine well here.
#12- I would have loved it more if it is Garage or Liquid Dubstep, and it is a bit too long for my liking. Still, it was a sweet chill ride.
#11- I don’t want to comment on the production, it is just a wonderful cover, and it is a fun song to start the month with.
#10- Instinct has been on a roll, whether or not I would dislike an Instinct song comes down to really minute details now. New Rootkit was outta nowhere, and I like the chill direction he was going for here. Really nice vocals and melody, and it has that distinct Rootkit sound.
#9- I can clearly see now why this song is such a fan favorite. Love the first and third drops, they are grimy in a good way, great vocals and a great melody, and the variation of genres was a nice touch. If only the second drop weren’t that noisy.
#8- The amount of House we are getting is ridiculous, but I am definitely not complaining. Though I liked Gravity better, this is still a really uplifting song from Laszlo.
#7- This is probably Bad Computer’s weakest effort yet, but it is still amazing. The melody weren’t as fantastic as his other releases, but with Savoi’s vocals this is almost as good as Silhouette.
#6- Someone wake Famkii up!! I am so happy Notaker went back to his classic synthwave/New Beat sound. The whole song is atmospheric from start to end, and that really is enough for me to enjoy this.
#5- SLANDER really likes to play around with vocal chop pitches, and it sometimes work, sometimes don’t, here it definitely works! RIOT’s contribution for the mad second drop was superb too.
#4- Atmospheric, crisp production, classic chill UK Garage. This song is just heavenly.
#3- Two big comebacks. Anevo’s catchy melodic Breaks style is still able to capture me, and look who he found to put the icing on the cake. Phenomenal song overall.
#2- My My, this climbed up fast, quickly dethroning Welcome To London as my favorite song on the EP. I love the dark turn in this song, and the vocals here are my favorite on the EP too.
#1- A hybrid of She’s A Killer and Rearview Mirror never sounded better. I love the mysterious and story-telling feel of it, and I adore those vocal chops. First drop is punchy and full of emotion. The second Porter Robinson-like atmospheric drop was even better. This guy is such an addition to the label.
