Love this upload, nothing better than watching a professional at work, great job.

That does look fantastic. With you on the breakfast bar side. Just that little extra touch. This whole project has been a masterclass. Top job!

They're called digitally adressable LEDs. They come in different voltages (5V/12V/24V) and densities (30, 60, 90, 144 LEDs per meter). You've got power (+/-) and a data line that goes to the controller.

It's a bit more complex than regular strips, but fun if set up right. I'd check out QuinLED + WLED firmware - lots of guides out there. If your client isn't techy, it can get tricky tho, unless they have someone to help with settings and effects.

Cool that you have a supplier who can help if needed, always makes it easier!

Always use the aluminium profile because it acts as a heatsink. What I do is buy 1mm/1.5mm 40mm wide aluminium. I glue and aluminium to the top of the plinth which is usually 18/20mm and then add the 17/18mm aluminium profile to the overhang using more clear adhesive. It also gets over how to go past integrated dishwashers.

Looking nice! You can buy aluminium profile in black finishes which will blend in nicely with black cabinets instead of silver.

Its recommended to put tape into profile for heat dissipation

red crimps would be more appropriate nick, they're colour coded for wire size

Smashing job.👌 I definitely want to get that programable LED tape because it just mind blowingly SICK!

Unreal mate, I’ve been looking for a reliable place to sort my led strips forever. Stuff looks class and the website is 100x easier to use than others I’ve used. Could be onto a winner here

done my kitchen similar set up, i had 1 x driver meaty enough, but i ran 1.0mm twin flat flex everywhere, much easier than twin/earth,

Get some ws2812b and a digiquad and run it through WLED it’s a lot more versatile. Also if you have some left over put it around the back of your tv and look into Hyperion

The profile also acts as a heat sink to prolong the life of your LED tape and would always recommend soldering the wires to the tape as them crimp on connectors fail a lot

You need to look at a WLED module mate this can be programmed to do the chase animation 👍🏽

I used ledspace for tunable white strips in the bathroom. We panelled the ceiling and if you plan ahead there's enough panel depth that you can fit a slim profile in so no messy plaster snd a flush finish.

I have 6 different WLED installations throughout my house with more projects planned.

Just in case it's helpful - (and this is *NOT* an issue in the work performed in the video) - during a 1st fix many years ago, we deployed 1.5mm cable everywhere for lighting, then decided at the 11th hour to use 12v lights with a single fat driver as a feed. We hadn't considered that the current would be ~20x for the equivalent wattage in 240v. Fortunately, we did realise before buying the actual lighting and drivers. We switched back to 240v halogen (as 240v LED wasn't a thing back then).

24v DC would be ~10x the amperage of equivalent wattage in 240v. (As in, between the driver and the LEDs. Thus, I assume, Nick's remarks about considering multiple drivers, one in each bank of cupboards.)

I'm sure I'm teaching how to suck eggs for 99% of viewers - but, even myself, knowing P=VI ... it just gosh darn didn't occur to me when having the conversation about "why don't we do DC LED instead!".

Much love, no hate.

I fitted the led strips across the top of my cupboards as well which looks great as well, very easy to add them to the top of that bank of cupboards as well!!

I'm glad you zip tied the connectors up off the floor, kitchens are notorious for spills.
Yes it might not be by the sink but that doesn't mean somebody's not gonna tip over a pot of chili (Office US reference) right next to the stove.
Or some electrician will come in and nick a water pipe and end up flooding the floor.
I myself turned on the outside spigot and then went into our basement to find 2-3 inches of water and Niagara Falls. So keeping connections off the floor is a good idea.

I think you have very much thought /planned this through, Nick. I have seen it under the underside of the worktop overhang, but I think you can only do it on the chipboard/wood worktops. Maybe a bit on top of the unit where the driver is.
