What is a Blue Winged Olive? Pattern Included

Показать описание
Blue Wing Olive Fly is one of the more popular and famous mayfly imitations created presumably around the early 20th century. The creator is unknown but seems to have been a fly created by trial and air by multiple fly fishers. It gets its name from the color of the wings and body on the mayfly it is imitating, and can be tied in multiple variations. This is an effective fly because it copies the color of some of the more common mayfly species found around the world. #flytying #flytying #flytyingtutorial #fishing #fishingtips
The BWO gets tied on a 12 to 24 size dry fly hook, has a slender body made of dubbing always focusing on the bluish-gray hackle and wings. It works great because of its realistic profile, on slow moving water, and during a mayfly hatch when fish are feeding on emerging mayflies. Try to match the size of the fly to the size of the insects that are currently hatching.

FLY TYING TOOLS
SCISSORS: Fly tying scissors are designed with a sharp and precise blade that allows the fly tier to easily cut and trim feathers, furs, and threads. Fly tying scissors are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, you can find them from small, fine-tipped scissors for delicate work to larger, heavy-duty scissors for cutting thick materials. You will find them with straight or curved blades, and serrated edges that provide additional grip when cutting tougher materials.
