Learning how to Wheelie | Extreme Wheelie School | MT07 and MT09
Since our photo and video shoot for our Urbane Pro and Handroid MKIV products with Knox athlete and stuntman Rick English, we’ve been getting some definite wheelie envy and scouring YouTube trying to find the best way to do it! Having got so far, I’ve realised I needed help and that is why we sought out going to Extreme Wheelie, a school ran by wheelie experts to teach us how to wheelie a motorcycle in a safe environment and in a progressive manner.
What a day we had! I was learning how to wheelie a Yamaha MT09, a fantastic bike and a great motor for motorcycle wheelies. Geoff and Mark were learning how to wheelie a Yamaha MT07.
The progression throughout the day was huge, starting as total novices and ending the day being able to pull some pretty awesome wheelies!
I have since practiced on my Suzuki GSXR 750 and while I have had to adapt a little and start my wheelie faster due to the GSXR750 power delivery, I have managed to hold a 40-50m wheelie on it, which is massive progression for me!
Just for the record, in my opinion, the Yamaha MT09 and MT07 are a lot easier to wheelie than a GSXR750 as they have loads more punch at the lower end of the rev range allowing a slower and more controlled wheelie.
For clarification purposes, this is not a paid production, we paid for the day ourselves and are producing this content as part of our ongoing enjoyment of riding motorcycles, learning and bringing you fun content.
Of course, throughout the day, we were also wearing products from the Knox collection as follows:
Aaron was wearing:
Knox Urbane Pro Shirt in Black
Knox Orsa Leather gloves
Richmond MKII Jeans in Blue
Knox Casual T-Shirt
Mark was wearing:
Knox Urbane Pro Shirt in Grey
Knox Handroid POD gloves
Richmond MKII Jeans in Black
Knox Jacob Sport All season Base Layer
Geoff was wearing:
Knox Urbane Pro Shirt in Black
Knox Hanbury Leather gloves
Richmond MKII Jeans in Blue
Knox Casual T-Shirt
