In a capitalist countries, what matters most is supply and demand cures that's the most critical fundemental to remember, nothing else. Look for Scarce resources that matter. bad ie is diamond.

Hear me out as a "poor dad" peasant...
The lesson is use "paper" to buy gold and silver because it will always be worth something and the banks will crash and burn and bad times paper money becomes doo doo paper. What's a more likely scenario:
A. The gov comes up with a silly new currency (centralised) to value goods and services or
B. We start hoarding a precious mineral in its place and this guy standing next to you buys his Mars bars in dust and nuggets on a weigh scale.
I think there's often a little missing piece about the *utility* of money. For all its based on rocks value, there's no easily quantifiable way of valuing Mars bars with it and ultimately it would end up in a bank anyways given that storing loads of literal gold in scrooge vaults is not gonna happen.
Also second point, should gold and silver become the primary method of conducting transactions, then whatever happened to money can also happen to gold (inflation etc).
I'd hesitate to throw all my isa pot into gold when I could lose a very real amount very quickly. Say a bad week happens on the market and I lose 10% of my £10000 isa. I just lost £1000 in buying power for bugs for my family. Meanwhile, whilst inflation and devaluing of currency is very real, I don't see the world around me getting 10% more expensive week on week. There are spikes but that is primarily caused by shortages in stock more so than any value reasoning. Ergo my money was better kept as money growing more money. Ofc you could argue I could wipe 50% off my isa in crap investments there too however it still gives no real reasoning to dive into gold and silver. Hoard it all you like you ain't buying a ps5 with gold unless the value of it matches a dollar for dollar value because those stores still want cash. The argument for future proofing is relying on paper / general currency completely disappearing but no boss is gonna start paying in gold and silver pieces.
You could just as likely make an argument for putting all your money into land, food, property, oil because "its always been valuable and always will be". Right up until we find ways of not using it in any physical way.
