Happy Tuesday! Your mention of super glue for surgery on yesterday's video brought back memories from when I volunteered at a biology marine center. I would wrap a towel around shark pups and hold them while the biologist closed their wounds with super glue. It was such an honor for me to work with the biologist and shark pups. Scientist and Doctors amaze me!!

When I first read “dermaplaining” I read “dermasplaining” like “mansplaining”. I thought oh no we need all the dermasplaining possible. Sorry just woke up

Hi Andrea, Appreciate you explaining the distinction between Dermaplaning & face shaving. I do feel the stacked tool is the best at home option for those who don’t want to go for an in-office treatment. As a cosmetologist It’s the closest, safest option I’ve found for home use. I don’t even use a scalpel on my own face despite having a license to do so. It’s extremely difficult to prevent nicks & cuts due to the visual limitations performing on your own face as well as not being able to approach at the safest angle. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Tuesday 😊

I have dermaplaning done by an esthetician about every two months. I am 61 and attribute good skin care including sunscreen, dermaplaning and facials as to why I have healthy skin and minimal wrinkles (well, partly genetics, too). I love how healthy my skin feels after a day or two once mild redness subsides. I do have to be careful about not using retinol for about a week. Thanks for a great explanation of the benefits and risks of dermaplaning.

Love dermaplaning! I do this about every 3-4 months with my esthetician. I have a lot of peach fuzz and dry skin, so my skin looks so fresh and bright afterwards. I usually get a hydrating facial immediately after.

Thank you for explaining that derma planning is a procedure done by a physician with a surgical blade. It is NOT shaving. It’s very serious and we see so many scars and track lines and bacterial infections. 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa

6 weeks from wedding. Was contemplating dermaplaning for glowy, beautiful face. This video helped me decide it's not worth the risk of sensitivity to my usual products. I'd rather have a clear face than risk acne for a glowy one. Thanks Dr Dray!

WORD OF WARNING: Don't do this on your own and at home, guys!

A couple of weeks ago, I stupidly applied a cleansing balm on my face and got a cheap dermaplaning scalpel and started shaving away.

A couple of days later, I developed bumps on my forehead which later developed into full on inflammation / contact dermatitis. My face became swollen, weeping pus-full rash everywhere - it got so bad that I had to call the ambulance because I thought I was having an allergic reaction.

The doctor at the A&E (ER) told me it was eczema and prescribed me with steroids, antihestamine and antibiotics. That didn't really help, so I went to my local GP (doctor) and she prescribed protopic (tacrolimus ointment) which managed to calm my skin. My blood tests and allergy tests came back fine, so my GP said it was probably the dermaplaning that caused the irritation (not something that I ate).

Now, my skin is back to normal and I will NEVER EVER EVER attempt DIY dermaplaning again!

(That was one of the WORST experiences of my life - I was in so much pain. Not being able to work. My face bloody from scratching it due to the itchiness. THE HORROR!)

I have tried this and yes makeup looked very good but I hate the feeling. Everything that touches my skin after feels 1000 timesore intense. Even a loose hair makes me crazy. The peach fuzz has a purpose for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thankyou Dr. Dray. I have done quite a few home treatments with success and no infection or scars. However, yesterday, I did dermaplaning. I won't do it again. The blade I used was new, and although it did take off some skin, I felt it wasn't sharp enough. AND I did get a nick and other marks which I don't think are nicks, but concern me enough to just say no. Marks on my forehand, which is always clear and wrinkle free. Thanks for saying don't do it and for listing products which will exfoliate. I think also, even if reviews on blades are done, that it's hard to know which blades are the best.

JUST SAY NO.
I hope the marks will heal.

Dermaplaning is fantastic and my skin is actually glowing with just moisturizer.

I think if it works for others that’s great but for me I had it done once and probably wouldn’t again. I’m acne and eczema prone so it seemed to trigger some issues. I prefer feeling like my skin barrier is intact. I stick to aha and retinol etc for exfoliating

Every 2 weeks I shave with Japonesque brand “derma planning” razor. I avoid the entire cheek/blush area. I have never cut or nicked myself or caused any inIections. I love how it makes my skin smooth and products seems to work better. I would not get a scalpel derma planning, too intense for my sensitive skin !

This is one of my favorite things to do. I have been dermaplaning for a little over 2 years now. I buy my scalpels off of Amazon and perform this once a month. Probably not a great idea for everyone to do at home as she mentioned but has been great for me. I sterilize everything as they would in office and studied best techniques after doing some research. I love it.

I much prefer facial waxing, removes the peach fuzz and is a great exfoliant, always radiant and glowing after a wax. And I love the feeling of the warm wax on my face
