Orange is the New Black - Set Tour

Recently I found out that Orange is the New Black films tons of scenes about 25 minutes away from my house. And after finding that out, I couldn’t resist taking a drive over to check it out. I did a quick Google search and learned that all outdoor prison scenes are filmed at this location which is the abandon Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center which stands in for the exterior of Litchfield. If you ever have a day off or something, I definitely recommend taking a drive over there and checking it out.

I was just there this morning. Its beautiful. Very nice area and nice land! If anyone is planning on going please keep a few things in mind...

Cops patrol here. There were two cop cars circling around and when they noticed we were there they appraoched immediately. They were nice and respectful BECAUSE WE respected them as well. I told them we were only there to walk around and take photos and would leave shortly. I ASKED for permission to do this because there is a sign that says no tresspassing. The cop gave permission and even let us know where the cool spots were. So if you plan to go, repsect the land and property as well as the wild life (there is a family of geese who live here). Cops shouldn't have a problem.

Another thing to note... do not show up here when they are filming. You are likely to be fined and kicked out. Wait until the season has stopped filming and then go. But by doing this, you will miss out on a few things. Red's garden and greenhouse are taken away and the gates are locked so you cant go on the field. But it still worth it to go because you can see the loading dock, the tool shed and the benches in the courthouse where they gather in most outdoor scenes. Also, the Litchfield sign is taken down after filming.

TO FIND IT.... you need to take the back road around the lake. If you follow a gps it will take you to the ACTIVE side of the facility. Please dont go there. This is a real hospital with real mentally ill patients.

Just be respectful and you will have a great time.

They filmed a scene right up my street once! It was so cool and it was a flashback !

And most of it was filmed in the Children's Ward! I lived there for 16 long months, and it felt like Jail! Everything was locked!

Omg this is awesome I’m not really a fan of the show but I grew up in Rockland county I was watching where the lady in the van was driving away from the prison and it showed a clip of the reservoir I use to fish in and I was like that looks really familiar so I searched it up and got the results I wanted awesome

So I thought they were filming inside of an abandoned prison or hospital, but it seems they build the entire sets in doors. I don't know anything about filming, but that just seems like a LOT of work and then they tear it all down. Every detail is there and looks like a jail or prison. The bunks are really the ones in jails. Even the metal doors and ugly tile. Looks very good.
I want to see the indoor set too, but I read its in Astoria Kaufman studios ;(
By the way I heard the legal person busted her balls for just visiting the set.
