As a black person why the hell are we culturally appropriating other people's characters instead having original well written characters. We wouldn't make Mulan black, we wouldn't make Jasmine chinese we wouldn't make Pocahontas white. Why the hell are we making Ariel black in a legend from northern Europe? Stop taking the scraps they give us and actually demand real black stories be told instead of letting them blackface someone else's legend.

As a black person, when I first heard that Ariel was going to be black I was upset. NOT because of her skin color but because I know that Disney is just doing this for money. They don’t care about showing diversity. They care about getting more money from people that are happy that disney is “showing diversity”. Why can they make new movies with a black main character? Like can companies just stop making it so painfully obvious that they’re trying to add more black people so they can get more money. stop putting it in our faces that someone is black or any other races or sexuality. Don’t make it their whole personality.

I think that’s it’s great of disney for including other races but they can make other characters like that and not have to change characters from the og ones that we all remember as little kids
