Have they ever met someone with Autism? Let alone a variety?

A lot of people experience and display Autism differently, it's a spectrum, but this is cartoonish and insulting.
It represents an already very misunderstood condition in a very bad way, taking every ableist expectation of what someone with Autism is like and shoving it on a character. It's frankly quite horrifying.

me, an autistic person, watching this: oh no

(seriously, this is terrible. the title scrawled in childish handwriting was the nail in the coffin.)

Maddie Ziegler has become sia's alter ego, and Sia has been open about mental health problems. It doesn't really make sense using someone else's diagnosis as a plot tool though. Comes across less like 'all in it together', I kind of can see where she might have tried to be coming from but doesn't really pan out when there are lots of other girls who could have been better for the role 😥

This is purely judging by the trailer and is going to be an unpopular opinion. I understand that people are upset about this movie because they don't feel it represents people with autism. But I think it does show what low functioning autism looks like. Autism is a spectrum. someone with high functioning autism would not identify with Maddie's character. I am someone who has studied and is working in the field and this is accurate to the struggles a person can go through with autism. But I think they could have done a better job of representing the autism community with more diverse characters. Perhaps had actors who are on the spectrum. Also maybe made the film less stimulating.
