Triple Play: 3 'Wing Template' Quilts with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star (Video Tutorial)

We have a new tradition here at Missouri Star: Triple Play! Once a month, Jenny, Misty, and Natalie each demonstrate their own, unique take on a favorite block, technique, or template. This week these talented Doan ladies are showing off three adorable quilts made with our brand new Missouri Star Wing Template, which is a companion to our trusty Simple Wedge template.

Natalie's "Layered Diamonds" quilt is made with the Wing Template, the Simple Wedge template, and 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Her fabric is "Glow" by Wishwell for Robert Kaufman. Bonus project: She also used the small simple wedge and wing templates and a charm pack of 5 inch squares to make an adorable Mini Layered Diamonds Table Runner!

Misty's "Christmas Tree Farm" quilt is made with the large wing template and 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Misty's fabric is Hustle and Bustle Layer Cake by Basic Grey for Moda Fabrics. Bonus project: She also used the small wing template and a Kona Cotton Paintbox Charm Pack by Robert Kaufman Fabrics to make TWO Tree Farm Table Runners! (Yes, two runners from one charm pack!)

Jenny's "Just Wing It" quilt is made with 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cake). Jenny's fabric is Snowdays Flannel 10" Squares Bonnie Sullivan by Maywood Studio. This quilt is made up of quick and easy half-rectangle triangles. Jenny also used the small wing template and two of Moda's Bella Solids charm packs - green and red - to whip up a Just Wing It Mini quilt.

I lay my quilt out on a flannel backed tablecloth (on the floor) and roll it up when I am happy with the placement of all the pieces. Then I just unroll it a little at a time as I sew it together!! I mostly make mosaic t-shirt quilts so it works fabulously for me!!

I have been quilting for almost 2 years. My first Christmas I took on a monumental Christmas tree runner. I did not have a pattern, I had to make it up as I went. Needless to say the "first runner" took me over 8 hours of sewing, ripping and recutting. UGH! I so wish I had this wing cutting template, as it would have made everything easy peasy. Jenny, for some reason your quilt reminds me of gnome hats! I love this new cutting tool!
