The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released the latest employment numbers for July.

Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood said the unemployment rate, which was expected to be on hold on Thursday, has “tweaked up” to 4.2 per cent.

The employment numbers are important for the Reserve Bank of Australia in its deliberations about interest rates.

Mr Greenwood said the odds of a rate cut this year have “probably improved” as a result of the unemployment rate.

Markets have been pricing a rate cut almost since the RBA started raising rates.

UNDEREMPLOYMENT is more relevant. If you work one hour per week you are classified as employed. There are lots of people working 2 even three jobs and not getting enough hours to live decently, especially after Burke's workplace laws.
