In this video, we’re going to talk about six natural ways to lower your cortisol levels.

Cortisol is a vital hormone—you need small amounts of it to stay healthy. However, when you have way too much cortisol, you can run into many issues when it comes to your health and body weight.

Cortisol is a stress hormone that can add pounds to your belly fat.

Here are six ways to help regulate your cortisol levels.

1. Lower your body stress levels - Stress accumulates in your body. If you don’t release it, it continues to build up and cause issues throughout your body. Acupressure is a great way to get rid of stress in your body.

2. Increase your sleep - You need to address both the quality and quantity of your sleep. Stress levels, sleep disorders, and insulin resistance can lead to poor sleep.

3. Increase your aerobic exercise - Aerobic exercise is great for lowering stress and cortisol. Long walks are great for lowering cortisol.

4. Take vitamins B1, B5, and D - These nutrients are vital for managing health cortisol and stress levels.

5. Use adaptogens (herbs) - Adaptogenic herbs can help increase your resistance to stress, thus helping support healthy cortisol levels.

6. Increase potassium and magnesium intake - These nutrients help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which lowers the fight-or-flight stress response.

You forgot one other powerful cortisol lowering mechanism: Laughter or even smiling.
Laughter sends a message to the subconscious that things are alright. The complete opposite of the flight or fight response.
Would you laugh if you were being chased by a lion?
The subconscious cannot distinguish between reality and imagination. So laughter, or even smiling, can fool your mind into releasing healing hormones. Look at funny films or just smile more often. Hatred, especially towards others, is one of the most destructive sentiments.
As the saying goes: laughter is the best medicine.

I have gained all the fat around my abdomen in around 7 months in 2019, at the time where i was mostly stressed all the time. I now believe truly that stress really destroys the body and it gave me such a terrible fat belly.

In August my stomach started growing, my menstrual cycle began to change-. I passed it up as nothing.. I noticed in January I looked like 5 months pregnant... I was using vests or big cardigans to cover up.. I'm convinced I have high cortisol! My body has been stressed since last January over a move and the death of a parent... the adrenal glands hurt from time to time. I'm constantly urinating.. long story short ... I stopped cafffeine went for brisk walks and tried to focus on mindfulness and relaxation and I continued that for a week... can I tell you what a difference it made... this week I'm back to stress and drank coffee ... guess what... you know.... bloated stomach that doesn't go away and so on...TY Dr. Berg... you help me more than you know!

Thank you thank you thank you for your work!! Recently I began working on improving sleep and lowering stress. Since starting B1, potassium, and K2 I am now sleeping 7-8 hours straight through without awaking in the night - first time in 30 years! Combined with intermittent fasting, better diet, less coffee, and no sugar I'm now lowering belly fat as well. I work in a high stress healthcare setting but these changes have brought increased calm to my life and better over all health. I cannot thank you enough for your wisdom. These things actually work.

I have learnt so much from your videos!! I went to my family Doc about 5 yrs ago with most of the symptoms you described. He told me to stop eating processed food and try a Mediterranean diet or FODMAP! Didn’t even try to figure out what was the cause!! I truly believe we have to look after our own health!! Thank you!!

Great video Dr Berg. Could you please do a video on adaptogens, specifically ashwagandha? Any side effects it may have?

can personally vouch for ashwagandha, low does for energy and high does for relaxation. stopping after a few weeks use gave me mild symptons of benzo withdrawl so it works but it has some danger in my experience. also gave me acne

Well I never! I should have known you are a chiropractor. Many years ago after I ended up with a dissociative fugue, I didn’t turn to my GP who would no doubt have offered the type of medication that in itself can cause side effects. I turned to my chiropractor! Together with him and 2 colleagues, an acupuncturist and a massage therapist, and coupled with TCM, they brought me back to an even keel. I take my hat off to you all. You are bloody amazing ❤

Good job w/ the darker markers on that whiteboard. In older vids, it is sometimes not as clear. This is easier to see, thus, less stress and no cortisol spike.

After a lifetime of stress I retired. 2 years later, and I still can't get enough sleep.
I sleep deeply, but seem to require at least 12 hours per day.

Hi Doctor, your videos on adrenal fatgue literally saved my life. ...i have been taking Ashwagandha 500 mg daily for adrenal fatigue, along with vit D and mg. It seems to be working. I am much calmer now, although I have noticed that I get mid back pain on the left side, something like a spasm while taking Ashwagandha. It became quite acute at one point that I had to stop taking the pills. Through the method of elimination, I could figure it is Ashwagandha. Have you come across this side effect of the herb? Now i am taking it once in every 2 days. Thanks a bunch.

Your more recent videos say that best exercise for reducing cortisol is long walks in nature- if only we could all have regular and easy access to that- nonetheless, is still confusing and I have found this throughout the videos that I have watched, there is what seems to me, as conflicting information... which is confusing, for me. I appreciate these videos so much... I'm just letting you know
