My counter point is that the enemy inside the sphere has weight. Therefore, it does not accelerate and go that high. I would also say you cannot cast catapult on a magical sphere that large. Very creative interpretation of the spells though

Simple solution, rather than all the BBEGs getting a flying speed, just give them a permanent feather fall effect. Problem solved. Can't die if you don't take damage.
