Kathy you always provide such amazing nuggets of information. I love it. I make a point of replying to buyer's questions as accurately and cordially as humanly possible. They absolutely appreciate it. It's hard to purchase something that you cannot touch..or smell so they want all of the information that you can provide so that they can make a decision regarding that purchase. Because we are all consumers at one point or another, giving buyers some grace to ask questions and answering those questions in the manner in which we would want our questions answered if the rolls were reversed is key to being a great seller and an even greater customer service representative for your own small business. And trying to guess with any accuracy of when an item is going to arrive at its intended destination through the postal system is impossible.

I mailed a book from Florida to Wisconsin. It went by Media Mail. Most of the time, my Media Mail packages get delivered in about 5 or 6 days. I checked the shipping on that package and saw that it was getting close to its destination. I checked it the next day and found that was in Alaska!! Why....I have no idea. I messaged my buyer to let her know that I was tracking it. The journey from Alaska to Wisconsin took almost three weeks to get to my buyer! Yes, I did have a clerk at my PO check on it (they have access to better tracking than we have). Again, my Media Mail packages normally take 5 or 6 days to get to their destination. The clerk at my PO thought that it probably got put in the wrong container at the hub near my buyer.

I really treat these questions as an opportunity to check the accuracy of my listings. I answer questions first thing in the morning (I cannot check business at night, it is just not good for me). I will check the listing and answer the customer. While rare, sometimes I have 2 different measures in the listing or, I omitted it. Fixing errors, or even just updating listings, seems to make a big difference in my sales. But, sometimes you did get customers that just continue to ask questions that are covered. I try to avoid it, but eventually I just block them. 20+ years on eBay, like you, you find that customers that are excessive in questions tend to be ones that create more problems down the road. I don't have hard and fast rules for this, but if you are experienced you can feel it coming.
