The Great British Sewing Bee | Behind the Seams | Series 7 Ep 9 – 1940s Week

Join our sewing experts Sarah Payne, Alistair Macdonald, Samantha Hamilton and Kim Suleman as they share their views and opinions on the latest episode of The Great British Sewing Bee.

In the semi-final, judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young asked the four remaining sewers to create a pair of Oxford Bags from the 1940s. The decades most famous trousers, these proved particularly tricky to make and left the contestants struggling with oversized pattern pieces and fly zips.

For the Transformation Challenge, the task set was to turn old parachutes into glamorous dresses.

Finally, in the Made to Measure challenge and in-keeping with the theme, the sewers were asked to create a garment inspired by Dior’s New Look, characterized by rounded shoulders, a cinched waist and a very full skirt.

I think they are all amazing sewers but if I have to pick I would say Serena.. very talented and precise sewing.. hope they keep on producing this programme as it gives inspiration and the presenters are really engaging.. cant wait for the final.. good luck to all xXx

As we leave the semi, I would predict 1, 2, 3 as Serena, Raph, Rebecca. (However, Raph could pip at the post as his garments can be dramatic). So enjoyed this week’s Behind the Seams, especially Alistair/Esme!😂

I think Serenna will win. She has been consistent in her sewing. Raph has a good eye for design and is willing to take risks. Good luck to them all. They have all come a long way.

I think Serena will win. She has such immaculate attention to detail and is constantly good at everything she makes.

i think Serena deserves to win, she is consistently good with the challenges thrown at them. Others have won more made to measures, but as they all have time to practice these, they should be good at them.

Any of the finalist could win depending on what you think the decision should be based on, great sewist is Serena, most improved is Rebecca and most creative is Raph. I think Raph will be the winner this year, because he sews well and also took some risks. In order to win, it would be wise of him to make smart achievable choices and produce quality work for the final. Best of luck to all of them!

Me and serena did highland dancing together even though we have a massive age difference. We wheee in the same dance class
