It was 1627 AD where almost all of Bharat was under Islamic and Portugal occupation.
The Deccan sultans always preferred to have Muslim officers in the army.
But there was one Maratha commander. Named Shahaji Bhosale in Adil Shahi military.
In the year 1630 at the fort of Shivneri near Junar, Maharashtra, a son was born to Shahaji and Jijabai.
Shivaji was the 6th child of Shahaji Bhonsle (Father) and Jijabai (Mother)
His name is not derived from Lord Shiva but in fact a regional deity by the name of Shivai.
Shivaji’s father was always away in his childhood so Shivaji was personally trained by Dadoji Konddeo, he was trained in martial arts by Kanhoji Jedhe and Baji Pasalkar, Jijabai taught him Hindu religious lessons.
After that, at the age of 15, Shivaji took control of the Torna, Chakan and Kundana forts from Adilshahi commanders and also took over thane fort, Kalyan fort and Bhivandi fort from Mullah Ahmed.
After this Islamic and Portugal occupation got angry on Shivaji Maharaj, so to stop Shivaji they took action by arresting his father Shahaji Raje. This was the reason Shivaji Maharaj did not attack adilshah for the next 7 years.
In these 7 years, Shivaji built a huge army and got victory over 40 forts.
By 1670, Shivaji Maharaj recovered a major portion of the territories surrendered with Mughals within 4 months.
Finally, on 6th June 1674, Shivaji was crowned king of the Marathas in Hindu ceremony at Raigad.
It was not just his military achievements that made him great. Shivaji was the most capable administrator.
He never discriminated against any religions.
He discovered Guerilla warfare to fight against enemies and had a strategic mind to build navy and network of forts.
He started with 4 forts and 2000 men and by the time he died he commanded an army of 100000 people and 300 forts.
In March 1680, Shivaji Maharaj fell ill with fever and died on 5th April 1680 at the age of 52. After Shivaji Maharaj death, his first son Sambaji and later Chhatrapati Rajaram took care of Maratha Empire.
Because of Shivaji's great work, he remained in people’s heart forever inspiring them
