Not a great start to our holiday in Turkey | Scams are still happening

Whilst for the most part the rest of our holiday was great and most of the Turkish people were really friendly.

We did fall victim to a taxi driver/taxi company owner (and owner of the shop on the thumbnail) and some lack of pricing of in a restaurant. The Turkish government has worked hard to try and stamp out tourist scams but BEWARE they are still some individuals keen to rip you off.

We used to love Turkey but not been for almost 10 years now, the long flight, drunks on the plane but the constant harassment of people trying to get you into their shops or restaurants did my head in. Until that changes we will never go back, cheers Alan

I went for a holiday to Turkey 2 decades ago and it was easy to be scam that time too like you share your experience.
Seems not so much change.
Be careful with pitpocketing.
Happy Holidays.

Oh dear mate that’s not good. I have to say Turkey has never appealed to me at all. Heard so many bad stories.

Have had a few similar experiences in Cancun, Mexico...seems the same in a lot of holiday destinations these days...a real shame, especially when there are so many honest operators, all it takes is a few to ruin it for everyone. Hope you are able to enjoy...it is one destination I too would like to get to some day. Take care...Bruce and Otis

When we went to Turkey one restaurant had put a sign out saying "when you con one customer you lose a thousand". So true. Warm wishes from Millionaire Paul :)

Never been to Turkey but it doesn't sound like a place near the top of my list anyway. I try to stay away from taxi in whatever country I am in. Hope you enjoyed the holiday tho 👍

Damn scam artists. Lot of places like this. Sorry to hear about your experiences. “Rather go to spain” with you on that one. When we went to Turkey i felt constantly approached about what football team i liked, felt there wouldn’t have been a word come out of my mouth that wouldn’t have had me filled in. Thankfully I genuinely don’t give two hoots about footy so i left without a beating. Very aggressive vibes though. ❤

Sounds like a frustrating experience, really puts a bad taste in your mouth. This is why I like to holiday in fairly remote locations. Best to avoid people and take your chances with nature and wild animals 😂 Good info though for anyone thinking of traveling to Turkey! Sorry this happened to you guys.

Ah that is a shame, we know how you feel about the constant harrassment to go into restaurants and bars! After 90 days our 'no thank you' in turkish has gotten much firmer, that said, we try and avoid towns never mind cities! Glad the rest of your trip went well though, would you return?
