Hi there,

Can you tell me if your videos can last more than 28min? I´ve been having that problem...

So, being a noob and being SJ5000X ELITE my first ever camera, beside my mobile phone... let's see how far we've come.

From what i found on reviews/blogs etc. the SJ5000X Elite comes with a native 12, 4 MP Sony Sensor IMX078CQK and has a sensitivity of 1437 digits and could shoot 4000 x 3000 pixels 4k at 42fps, but even tough it could shoot 4K with 42fps the Novatek 96660 chip is not capable of that.

The Sony IMX206 sensor, used in the Xiaomi Yi and in Git2, has a sensitivity of 1096 digits and can only shoot 4k at 12fps.

So at least for video application the IMX078 "in SJCAM" is better due to better low light sensitivity and higher fps in 4k video compared to IMX206.

Both GIT2 and SJ5000X Elite, have the Novatek 96660 chip, and offer the same video resolition:

4K – max. 24fps - interpolated
2K – max. 30fps
1080p – max. 60fps
720p – max. 120fps


We have also to consider the Memory Card, and there are various Micro SD CARDS:


Class 10 - indicates that the card provides write speed of at least 10MBs.

UHS-I U1 - means that the card is fast enough for Full HD video recording at 1080p - 10MBs constant writing.

UHS-I U3 - means that the card is fast enough for shooting videos in 4K Ultra HD - 30MBs constant writing, with devices that support the UHS-I standard.


Unfortunatly SJ5000X Elite camera needs the card to be formatted FAT32, and that´s where my main problem was, because in my every videos, they only reached 28min:13sec tops.

The fact that it requires a SD CARD formatted in FAT32... which have the max of 4GB per file because thats a FAT32 limit... in practice it means that you wont be able to film more tha 27 to 29min straight... the camera continuous recording, but when you access the files storage, instead of a 90min film i ended with three 30min files.

I only have a SanDisk Ultra 32GB class 10 Memory card, as they said it would be enough.

Memory Capacity: 32G

Class Rating: Class 10

Read Speed: 48MB/s

Write Speed: 20MB/s

Im trying to find out if other users of sj5000x elite have the same issue with a UHS-I U3 cards, wich are the best class to film 4k and have atleast a 40MB/S WRITE SPEED, or if it would solve my problem of cyclic videos... the new firmware updates 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 claim to solve the 64gb and 128gb bugs, and improved the sound, but there still exists the sound moffled issue, very noisy like grainy/scratching on clothes.

I ALSO HAVING SIMILAR ISSUE, I CAN RECORD MAX OF 25 MIN ONLY, THEN IT WILL START FROM 0 AGAIN, ALSO I HAVE INSERTED 64 GB M CARD BUT CAN RECORD ONLY 8 GB, I DONT KNOW WHY ?MY MEMORY IS SIMPLY WASTE NOW, CAN ANY ONE HELP ME TO SOLVE BOTH THE ISSUES
