'We'll stand up for earth', we added a verse to this beautiful old protest song and sang it last night -at our last rehearsal before lockdown. This felt like the right song to sing at the end of an anxious couple of days; whilst we wait to see the result of the US election. What a time! watching monumental political events unfold with our hearts in our mouths!

'We Shall Overcome' is a gospel song which became a protest song and a key anthem of the civil rights movement. The song is lyrically descended from 'I'll Overcome Some Day', a hymn by Charles Albert Tindley that was first published in 1901.
