When I first vegetable gardened, I pulled all of my plants post harvest and took a good look at the roots. I had absolutely no clue what I was looking for but did try to remember what I saw when looking through the books during the winter. I know more now and prefer to take a peek at the roots. Roots are important PIA that it is to pull and look at them.
