Vw Golf MK7 1.4tsi ea211 noise problem

Knocking engine noise. Begins to knocking after 15-30 seconds since start. Only on cold engine.
Car: Vw Golf mk7 1.4tsi 90kW

Had the same issue on cold starts (1.4 tsi EA211). After I switched from 5w30 to 0w30 the issue has solved and never happened again even on -10C

I have 2013 1.4 tsi, 35, 000 miles. Mine also makes the ticking noise occasionally on cold startup. Seems quieter after new engine oil! Recommend inspecting toothed timing belt!!!… At 9yrs old the rubber on mine is looking a bit “hard” and belt edges feel a bit “rough”. Going to renew it ASAP!

Hey. I've got the same knocking sound, most prominent when cold engine but also some when fully warmed. I ve got no idea what causes the tapping/knocking. It is only audible when you accelerate or keep constant speed of the engine. When you decelerate (not pushing gas pedal just slowing down) then the sound dissapears completely. Have you managed to solve it ?

Check the vacuum pipe which is on the timing belt cover my one was cracked in a couple places, fitted new one and the sound is gone

What is it? Same noise 1.2tsi with ea211..

My mechanic told me its turbo value being loose when cold start and makes this noise. When next time car make this noise he asked to hold the valve and noise should stop. I am going to try this soon.

Sound is normal on cold starts, but if you start to get excessive oil consumptions then consider to sell the car ASAP or you will need to rebuild/replace the engine

It's just the hydraulic rockers on thin or just used engine oil. Try a fully synthetic high quality engine oil, that should help. 5w40 VW 502 505 for normal oil change interval.

Hopefully you sold the car, the ticking sound is normal, but there is another sound of typical 1.2 tsi wear.

Just to help anyone with this noise. Same symptoms on mine, tapping starts soon after initial start in cold weather. Lasts for about 5 minutes or less on idle until the oil warms up. The noise is coming from the camshaft hydraulic adjusters. Until te noise isnt present all the time, or you start geting timing related fault codes leave it alone.
