The best book on this is 'Writing is Designing' by Andy Welfle and Michael Metts. It's priced like a textbook but is a great place to start.

Does Owen have any spreadsheet examples of you structure your workflow, and how you mentioned tagging things?

To me, UX writing still sounds like a subset of a UX designer's skills, instead of an own job. I am propably wrong, but could you explain more about that, so it gets easier to understand? :)
