Smith’s “virus” speech is one of the great speeches in modern film. To any first time viewer it hits home when you realize the truth of the virus analogy. To quote Cypher: “Gosh, what a MIND job!”

The fact that he talks like Carl Sagan, looks like Red Skull, and fights like an amalgamation of Cyril Gane and OmniMan is grounds enough to deem him very intriguing. Combine that with how sharp and intelligent his critiques of humans are and BLAMMO you got an awesome villian.

Ironically, in the second and third film he becomes more like the virus that he detests. He multiplies with no restraint, and he adopts a character that is full of human folly - arrogance, hubris, greed for power, recklessness, volatile anger, uncontrolled violence, and everything else for that matter.
