This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2023 Kia Seltos subcompact SUV. The Kia Seltos is a tough one to beat in the sub-compact category! This crossover offers great value, excellent power, a fun dual clutch transmission and plenty of available features including ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and a larger 10.25” touchscreen. The Kia Seltos offers a bold exterior design with 7.3” of ground clearance. We are test driving the top SX model with LED headlights, LED taillights, fog lights, body-coloured side-view mirrors, a black and chrome grille, chrome accents, roof rails and 18” wheels. It comes standard with a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD There is also a second engine option, a 2L 4-cylinder with a CVT, 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, FWD and AWD options are available. Although the Kia Seltos offers a fair amount of standard features like an 8” touchscreen, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated front seats, a manual driver and passenger seat and cloth upholstery, moving one up from the base model will get you a heated steering wheel, a leatherette interior, moonroof and a rear centre armrest. Available features include a larger 10.25” touchscreen, a 7” instrument cluster, navigation, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless charger, a power driver and passenger seat, Bose sound system and a head-up display. Strangely, there are features we get in Canada that you can’t get in the US like a power passenger seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel.
Fuel economy; the 2L 4-cylinder gets 8.8L/100km, 27 MPG city and 7.6L/100km, 31 MPG highway. The 1.6T gets 9.4L/100km, 25 MPG city and 7.9L/100km, 30 MPG highway. In Canada, the Seltos FWD starts at $23,695 CAD, AWD $25,695 CAD, EX $28,295 CAD, EX Premium $31,595 CAD and SX Turbo $33,695 CAD. In the US, LX AWD $22,840 USD, S FWD $22,890 USD, S AWD $24,390 USD, EX AWD $26,140 USD, Nightfall Edition Turbo $27,040 USD, SX Turbo $28,340 USD.

With gas prices continuing to climb and the used truck market still doing well, I decided to trade my 2016 ram 1500 in and buy the base model. I would have liked a higher trim level but wanted to keep the car payments super low since I didn't have any on the truck. The base model saves me so much on gas and still has a lot of great features. It's fun to drive and perfect for my two girls and I.

We got this exact 2023 SX Turbo 1.6L in steel grey colour and burgundy upholstery, 3 months back. We are loving it! It’s pure value for money and Kia have done a fantastic job meeting the needs of this market! Amazing video Zack & Andrea, as always! ❤️🙌🏻🎉

It is very hard to argue with the fact that KIA, specifically the Seltos, represents one of the best (yet affordable) values in the industry. You’d be crazy not to shortlist this CUV if you are looking in this category. With the price savings alone (vs. a RAV4 or Taos), a small family/couple could afford a weeklong Caribbean vacation in Cuba… at least, if you are Canadian. Thanks for the video.

The Seltos blows away the HRV in price and options. Hopefully a Hybrid comes out soon. Keep up the great reviews!!

Same drivetrain setup as the first gen Kona I used to have on lease. Overall it was the by far best engine/transmission mating I have ever driven. Andrea is spot on that you have to understand what you are getting with a dct but when you know what to expect and how to drive it you will be richly rewarded with an outstanding driving experience. Not for everyone though - that’s for certain. For me, the Seltos is much better sized then the Kona was but the stories about horror dealer pricing is nuts.

Andrea is right…….you can master a dual clutch transmission……to where it’s not jerky at low speeds. 👍

Just bought and been driving it. Handles really well. The choppy acceleration can be explained by the dual clutch, but now that I know why, you get used to it. Plenty of zip when you need to pass and better fuel economy than my old elantra. Very happy with my purchase. Going to take it out camping so will test out the storage this trip. I bought it despite Jack's obsession with the unibrow. And I love the fact that not many peoe have it compared to the Crosstrek here in Quebec. Makes it easiercto find in big parking lots.

I had added Seltos to my list. But the dealers here in Ottawa added some unbelievable charges to the MSRP and quoted a final price of 42k for the LX FWD. Moreover there was no timeline on when it would arrive. I also joined a FB group of Kia Seltos owners, and looking at the issues/complaints of Seltos, especially the engine overheating in a bumper to bumper traffic, I had to cancel my Seltos order. I wish Mazda had made Seltos shaped CX 30. I would have bought it in a second.

Great information and review. Always enjoy watching you two, very conversational presentation. I'm holding out for the Hybrid AWD Corolla Cross myself.

In a world where even the smallest compact vehicles cost over $35, 000 (including the rediculous dealer markups that is), this Seltos is a great value with more space than any competition

I had a Kia Soul 2022, which I was pretty happy with, but recently traded it in for the Seltos 2023, LX trim, which is what I originally wanted. Couldn't be happier with it - great price point, acceptable size for city driving (I live in the TriState area), very smooth ride compared to the Soul. Already took a couple road trips, including one to Canada (hey you guys!) - did not disappoint. I also like how it is a couple inches further from the ground, compared to the Soul or Mazda CX-30. It provides that better view and greater visibility, which makes me feel more comfortable and confident on the road.

I would recommend anyone to consider this car even in the lowest trim available.

PS: I am not in the car business, and not getting paid for this. Just a happy customer :)

It is unfortunate that in the US top version there are no ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and rear seats, no powered passenger seat, and no parking sensors. I find this odd as it is very hot during the summer in Kansas. I can't get ventilated seats. And it can also be very cold in winter, no rear heated seat. We pay as much as the car here as in Canada but don't get those options. I would pay for the option to add those features. My current car a 2019 Kia Niro Touring has at least real leather heated and ventilated seats, dual zone climate control but is FWD only. I would like to get the Seltos because I could use a vehicle with AWD (we do get snow here also). Too bad I can't get a Canadian version and bring it to the US, but I was told I could never register it in Kansas.

Love the exterior design and I think looks better than Sportage. I love the interior too! I just wish they included hybrid. I enjoy a lots of funny comments from you guys. I knew Zack would be happy to see a lots of buttons. 😆 price wise, it’s great.
