I wonder if anyone has sneakily installed this, subtly hinted at the Aether to their younger sibling who hadn't heard of it, then watched as their younger sibling got to experience happiness to put to rest the disappointment they experienced all those years ago

The Aether is such a magical concept.
While the Nether has a more obvious utility in long-distance travel, the Aether just offers a nice place to be.
Heck, the Aether even has the utility of not instakilling you when you fall, and instead dropping you into the overworld.

I really don't understand the mindset of the mod team trying to turn the Aether into some story-driven adventure in the sequel. It doesn't evoke the same sense of wonder and opportunity as just venturing into a land far more accessible and hospitable than the Nether or End.

I hear the creator of the original mod now works at Mojang, and if I recall correctly Jeb once heavily implied that “after the other three dimensions get major updates” they might add a new dimension. Even more interestingly, when 1.16 (sort of) re-added that custom worldgen thing to java edition they added the option to create your own dimensions (though only accessible through either mods or cheats). So in the far future we might get either the warden’s home dimension, or if Mojang goes down the fan service route, this.

1. The Aether was based off Notch's first attempt to make an opposition to Nether, which is Sky dimension, but he couldnt finish it and it was replaced with The End
2. One of mod creators used the base of Sky dimension's worldgen for The Aether, which instantly got an incredible hype over community, and because Notch mentioned about Sky dimension before it - people thought it was vanilla, and so the crazy tears kept going to those who didnt knew it was a mod.
