Depending of history of country in which language are books printed, we cannot take same mesurments for all, some countries were many many times conquerd and unstable in many ways that old books suffer same as people. Overall you are right but should definatly took into grading the history of country book has its origins from. USA from 1775 had very little wars on their soil, were for example Serbia even from 1459 to 1815. was held by Turks and after that 3 more wars til end of ww2, many books were stolen, burned, used for cigaret rolls, getting printing licence was hard and mostly in other countrys etc..
