While I was long time nVidia fan, when I look at what they are doing to overall advancement of technology just makes me sad... Now I am supporting AMD with all my heart. Really feel like this company didn't have a lot of luck and has done some big things, for which they aren't credited as much as they should be...

Good luck and happy new year AMD!

Side note- the dude at 0:00 is very excited. It's all over his face and and in his voice.

AMD are in a good position, they just released a very nice control panel for their graphics cards and also announced an open source version of gimpworks. Hopefully with these cards they can defeat the evils of nvidia and restore the balance.

I'm somewhat curious given HBM allows basically on-die Memory due to it's form factor and design... would it be possible that we might see the 400-Series (FinFET Generation) Hardware actually see GPU Co-Processors; where we can purchase just the GPU itself, rather than Embedded Discreet Solutions?

It just seems like it would be a natural evolution for both the CPU and GPU to include an 'on-die' HBM of say 1-4GB, while System Memory could then be used as an overflow / temporary Storage to offset the fact that even SSD are exceptionally slower static storage methods to stream data from. With both DirectX 12 and Vulcan providing 'Resource' based access to memory, compute, etc. it seems like a logical direction now that local Processor memory could be incorporated with this method.

I mean any pressure that can be taken off of the slow System Memory or the archaically slow Optical / Physical Storage is a /good/ thing in terms of performance, no? Especially given these seem to be what are lagging behind in term of improvements to the system as a whole. This seems to be a direction that is being taken with more SoC Solutions from AMD (i.e. Embedded R-Series and APU), which are definitely a direction that back in the late 90s seemed like the natural evolutionary step... I know that IBM (PowerPC / 68K) did this with excellent results, in terms of performance; what held them back was flawed architecture and fabrication methods

.I'd also though suggest a reduction in the 'Models' available. This has to some degree happened with the new naming conventions of R3-9 (Radeon) and A6-10 (APU) but having friends who generally don't know much about PCs looking to upgrade often the vast array of options is massively confusing for them.I understand that choice is "important" when it comes the enthusiast, but it is really very detrimental from a Consumer stand-point if this choice is far too vast.

Break it down to:
400-Series: R3 'Casual' (R430
)400-Series: R5 'Average' (R450)
400-Series: R7 'Performance' (R470)
400-Series: R9 'Enthusiast'  (R490)

I love the idea of the NANO and FURY conventions to indicate the difference between the Entry-Level 'Business' (so designed for power and longevity) against the Power-User 'Hardcore Gamer' (so designed for optimal on the edge performance) ... it would make a lot of sense even to non Tech Savvy individuals.

Honestly I remain notably excited about the future for AMD, with the last few years being some great strides towards making it frankly a much better experience as a consumer and developer.

Just think a slightly more aggressive approach where instead of directly competing against Intel or AMD, you instead look to carve out a sensible and understandable PC Experience for everyone not just the Enthusiasts. Branding, Public Awareness, Easy to Understand Performance Brackets... these will all go a long way to forge AMD itself as rather than the 'Cheap' option, the easier and more sensible option.

The new APIs of DirectX 12 and Vulcan already place the ball firmly within AMDs court to level the playing field; yet this will mean nothing if it isn't capitalised upon.

1080p, medium settings at 60 fps? HECK YA! 2005, we're back baby! I knew my time machine was going to work. Here I thought I was still in 2016 where the goal of a brand new cards were to run old star wars games at 120hz or 4k and new games @ 1080p on at least ultra.

It's not about how many you hire, it's about who you hire. AMD, you're small and still hit the giants where it hurts :)

I love listening to Raja Koduri. His words are calming and genuine. GCN has been one hell of an engineering achievement so far, I think Polaris is going to be very impressive.
