Ty Lue is in a tough position because the last 30 games before the deals and the addition of Russ, The Clippers were only playing slightly above .500 basketball(16-14)
That means he still wasn't sure about the players he already
Being able to add a pg like Russ at the vet min was an opportunity they could not afford to pass
Plus he had the endorsement of one of the best players on the team.
I'm guessing Russ' agent was clear to The Clippers that they had options(probably Chicago and Washington but that's only speculation) and that for them to get Russ at that bargain, Russ wanted at least a shot at leading the offense.
In terms of his impact on the offense it has been mostly a home run but the main thing in the impact on wins and losses and that has not been good....
But it's not because Russ has been a bad fit but because The Clippers defense is in severe decline and that decline started well before the deals and the addition of Russ.
The defense they played against the banged up Grizzlies in the 4th qtr is how they need to play every qtr of every game, at least the effort and energy.
You are not going to hold many nba teams to 17 pts per qtr but 25-27 is a reasonable ask.
Ty Lue is fine as head coach but like all head coaches he makes decisions us fans can
I am beginning to question whether he is losing the locker room because as a Lakers fan i saw this same thing happen to Frank Vogel....
