Wall World Is a Straight RIP OFF of Dome Keeper

Chatting with @LucklessLovelocks about some of the early responses to Wall World being similar to Dome Keeper in nature.

🤔 NEW HERE? 🤔
Hi! My name is Christopher Odd and I’ve been playing video games on the internet for a few years. I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Dragon Age, etc). Of course, I am always looking for great indie games too!

So curious to read what you all think of this format and the topic!

Having watched this channel for like 7 years it's neat to actually see Luckless for the first time. Some of my favorite playthroughs on this channel are the co ops with him.

Please more of you and LL discussing games

these sort of commentary vids are something I'd actually like at the end of long series even if they're single player. You mostly discuss the game during the credits but it would be nice if you wrote down your thoughts and after having some time to stew over the game you could release a small 5-10 min vid of your final thoughts

Wtf is this!? You guys stream a podcast? Why have I never heard of this? Is this a new thing, will there be more? I love it already and need more.
I'll, uh, have to watch this later though...

Dome Keeper is Horizontal. Wall World is Vertical.

I 100% prefer to watch Wall world. Dome Keeper was ok for the first few runs but I felt like we had seen everything the game had to give. In Waal World you have progression, the little snippets of lore, upgrades, so much more fun to watch over an extended period of time.

9:05 An example I can think of is "Just Shapes and Beats" and "Project Arrythmia". Two games with a similar concept, but developed independently - apparently development on Arrythmia started before JSaB

Similarity is obvious. But definitely differences as well. WallWorld to me is more attractive because more happens. But I think (but Odd is not that far yet for my videos) that the replay value of WallWorld is less because it just finished. Whereas DomeKeeper is like Luckless mentions more session based.
I'm actually writing this comment, and it's exactly discussed in your conversation. So yeah :) Similar but definitely not the same. If I had to choose it would be WallWorld for me, but I do enjoy watching both.

Domeworld is FAR from being an unknown game having sold between 150k and 350k copies. It can quite easily be copied by a big Russian dev house like Alwar games that has 50+ employees. Is that a bad thing? Dunno, who am I to judge. Does it feel like a different game, sure, but it's disingenuous to ignore the fact they straight up ripped several exact mechanics from Domeworld. This thing happens a lot in the software industry though. For example Vampire Survivors (which is a clone of a mobile game) spawned off dozens of clones.

Movies do that batching thing too. For many years there wasn’t a Pinocchio movie except the first one. Then 2 Pinocchio movies came out in the same year.

I thought it was made by the same people. A lot of the assets and fundamental things about how the game works are very similar if not identical. Things like, the optimal way to mine involves leaving a 2-block wide line. The way the upgrades work (both in look and approach). The controls are similar. The combat is similar, even down to the types of enemies and what they look like.

I legitimately thought that Wall World was like, a sequel of Dome Keeper because a lot of the concepts seemed more developed, such as the upgrades to the wallspider vs how progression worked in Dome Keeper. The addition of a boss fight. The time limit that keeps runs to a maximum duration (one of my issues with Dome Keeper was that runs just dragged on after a while.)

I loved Wall World, didn't like Dome Keeper so much, still thought Wall World was copying like 80% of its ideas from Dome Keeper.

If Wall World had come out before Dome Keeper, it would be the latter that would be ostracised.

Played wall world for an hour the other day, pretty sick

Dome keepers meta progression is more in line with, FTL. Vs Wall world which is a bit more like a typical rogue light in that regard.
