Herve Renard is the best realistic option the US has

Steve is right, Patrick is a lower tier football club manager and not a national team manager.

Bielsa wanted the job in 2018. He would be much better than Viera.

Yeah Steve's right. At a minimum, at least go after a coach who's won consistently.

I honestly don't think Patrick Vieira is a above average coach, or even that much better than Greg. Everyone thought he turned NYFC around but he really didn't. Jason Kreis did most of the leg work. The City football group screwed up with Kreis and didn't deliver the players they said they would when they said they would. A couple of Kreis' signings didn't turn out, but everyone who criticized him, only did so in hindsight. All Patrick did was get a decent roster that needed a handful of changes, city group finally brought in the players they had promised, and they had a couple of solid, not amazing, seasons with him at the helm. The rest of his managing career has been meh. I honestly am not sure he is any more qualified than Berhalter was.

I may be in the minority, but I like the idea of giving Vieira a try. I liked him in Crystal Palace and New York.

Also how is Veira good ending 5th place in France & Pochettino ACTUALLY winning the league isn’t a winner? Or a good option. These ppl want the US to stay down. Stevie for assistant coach to Pochettino!

No No No, but he would fit well for San Jose Earth Quake.

If he were to somehow lead the U.S. to winning the World Cup in 2026 in the United States St. Patrick’s Day would have to be celebrated in his honor going forward.

I'd take Viera over every name on the odds list

I'm going to put a non-European name out here that U.S. Soccer is not considering and he is available right now.

Could Guillermo Barros Schelotto be a good fit for national team coach? He was a star for Boca Juniors where he won many titles. He played in MLS and won the cup with the Columnus Crew.

As a coach, he helped Lanus win the Copa Sudamericana in 2013 and guided Boca Juniors to back-to-back league titles in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

He most recently coached Paraguay.

His resume is a lot stronger than Patrick Viera's. He's also a realistic choice if we're talking a money.

Viera, really!?!?
Very disappointing. The US soccer federation brought Matt Crocker for this?? They continue to disappoint us.

He's not ready. Vierra is a world class player. a legend. but, what has we won as a manager?

I would get David Wagner in. He’s USA level and the players would play for him

Why does ESPN feel it necessary to push coaches that just aren't ready for the world stage?

Shaka wants Vieira because he is ..., in the same way he said he shouldn't have been sacked by Palace because leagues need managers who are ...; managers need success and after his last two jobs, Vieira doesn't come across as good enough.

They meant, "Jim Curtin" not "Jim Curin."

lol some of the reactions to Viera are weird to me..I'd take him over Berhalter and Herve Renard..sorry, people jock riding on Renard have no idea what that guy has actually done lol. Viera has some solid european coaching experience now. I watched his Palace teams, I actually didn't hate the way they played /shrug.

Is basically every coach on the open market in basically rumoured to be the USMNT coach

What a joke US Soccer has become. Crocker has lost all credibility. This is not the “serial winning” manager he said was part of the key criteria. Viera’s career managerial record is less than 40%.
