[WOW] redox reaction between Iron and copper ions #shorts

This oxirreduction reaction between copper ions and metalic iron is nothing but WOW. This occurs because iron oxidation is more favorable when we compares it to copper. The copper ions present in this blue copper sulfate solution are reducted to metallic copper wich is characteristic redish color.

CuSO4 + Fe ---> FeSO4 + Cu

Copper sulphate has pale blue colour due to the presence of copper ions. When reaction occurs, iron displaces copper from its solution and copper gets deposited. As the solution loses copper it gradually loses its blue colour.

This is an example of displacement redox reaction.

Note - when CuSO4 react with Fe
Fe displace cu, the solution changes to green FeSO4 and Cu deposit to Fe....

Iron can react with copper sulphate:
Fe+CuSO4—>FeSO4+Cu,  
but copper can't react with iron sulphate:
Cu+FeSO4—>reaction doesn't occur.
