Was Destiny 3 Canceled? More Bad News for Bungie

As shown in this video, Jason Schreier made a tweet clarifying some of the rumors about D3 being cancelled. I included it in the editing so you can see it, but also kept the discussion about what the future of Destiny is without a Destiny 3 because the result is still exactly the same whether it was cancelled or never existed at all. Destiny 2 has no major expansions planned and no successor. So the conversation is still meaningful and accurate.

Sony has no tolerance left for gaming companies like Bungie. They will shut them down. Looks like they’re in a short leash right now. Can’t say I’m surprised. Bungies focus has been in places other than Destiny 2 way too often.

My Dad has owned his own business all his life. I've seen what it looks like to run a shop with integrity first as the core value and I'm not sure Pete understands the optics of this as it all feels very out of touch.

Real talk, we will still be playing Destiny and be playing close attention to what Bungie does next.

At somepoint Sony will shut down the studio and take their best people and funnel them in to their internal first party studios and righfully so 3, 5 billion is not pocket change they want a return for their fiasco investement.

I suggest letting this play out. If people have to ask any questions about the situation, people tend to address fears and concerns. In a co-op game, belief is everything and losing belief will be a self-fulfilling downward population spiral.

I don't think this is the end of the game completely, but I think it will fizzle out over time. Without some real attention made to the ritual playlists, small content drops like echoes won't be enough to keep players hooked. Fingers crossed for some good news before the end of August.

Without specific facts, that a cancelled project was D3 is just speculation, which isn’t helpful or useful. It may well have been a good game that we’ll never see, but there must be hundreds of such projects.

the general vibes moving from final shape to echoes had "maintenence mode/end of service" vibes and these rumors line up with it. it might not necessarily mean this is is, but episodes might be the holding pattern we have until they have a plan for how to move forward

Maybe Sony has just accepted it was a bad investment if you make a bad investment you got to know when to cut your losses, they poach some talented employees for other projects in SIE take a promising project and bring it in house and keep destiny ticking over till marathon releases and see if it is successful if destiny makes a comeback great if not and marathon isn’t successful…..You don’t chuck good money after bad and development requires investment.

Which is tragic considering D2 is entirely unsalvageable at this point. No proper updates to the actual core of the game made it this way. Theres no replayability left anymore, the only solution would be a D3. But Pete Parsons would rather kill Bungie apparently

Honestly if there is a D3 I'd like one just dedicated to PvE and another separate game dedicated to PvP. It hasn't worked for the PvP community for years and there needs to be a fully fleshed PvP game without having to play any PvE.

Parsons knows he's already past the point of no return and is getting fired by Sony.

my theory is there is a contract clause of some sort keeping him there for now, so he's axing shit left and right to claw what money he can on his way out.

Once Sony appoints a new CEO then we can expect a healthy bungie. until then Parsons is going to keep bruning bridges on his way out. thats my two cents.
