Hello and welcome to this weird crevasse of the internet where we get really excited about music (particularly Taylor Swift) and break down our favourite albums and songs. Our names are Bonny and Emily, and our aim with these videos is to share our love for music and also share context and understanding around the songs, by highlighting breaking down the lyrics, melodies and production. We are so happy to have created this little community that is just as unhinged as us when it comes to music 🤪

I'm Brazilian and I'm very proud to say that Beyoncé sampled a Brazilian funk in the song spaghetti!! The Perfect Combo

Cowboy Carter is Act II in Beyoncé’s 3-Act project. The first Act is Renaissance which was released in 2022. That’s why all the i’s are doubled in the tracklist.

This album has been ready for years actually! It was supposed to be released as Act I but when the pandemic was happening she decided to released Renaissance first as she thought that people needed to dance. :)

Beyonce previously went into country with her song “Daddy’s Lessons” on her Lemonade album. When she performed the song at the CMA’s she gave the awards show its highest 15 minutes section in CMA’s ever history. Unfortunately, the country field isn’t fond of black artists going into the genre because Beyonce was faced with tons of racist comments and CMA’s deleted the video of her performance. She recently came out and admitted to how uncomfortable her and her team felt while performing for the performance. That’s one of the reasons why she created this album and also she grew up listening to country music since her grandfather was a huge country listener.

Fun fact about the horse of the album cover is a Lipizzan horse, that breed of horse are born black or gray but as they mature they turn white. It’s super symbolic to the history of country music. Also, Linda Martell who is apart of two tracks was first commercially successful black female artist in the country music field, Linda Martell. Her song "Color Him Father" was the highest-charting country single by a black female artist on the US Country chart for 55 years. Unfortunately, she only had the chance to make one album before being blackballed from country music

Also, Cowboy Carter was supposed to be the first album of the trilogy but Beyoncé felt like it’ll be too deep and depressing to educate people on the history of country music since the pandemic just ended, she wanted people to have fun and be free with the Renaissance album! That album was so spectacular and masterpiece! It was my most streamed album of 2022 and 2023 lol

1. American Requiem - lays the cards out on the table about the history of the country, bad ideas, good ideas, judgments. The racist judgment against her that no matter how skilled and qualified she is they will never accept her.

Acoustic country:
2. Blackbird - Paul McCartney wrote it for black women during civil rights movement

3. 16 Carriages - tells the story of her childhood sacrifice

4. Protector - dedicated to her daughter

5. My Rose - dedicated to her son

6. Smoke Hour with Willie Nelson introduces the “Outlaw Western Country” portion of the album and begins to shape almost like a movie.

7. Texas Hold Em - meets a man and tells him to lay his guard down and be vulnerable
8. Bodyguard - she reveals her possessiveness over him
9. Dolly P - Dolly Parton actually requested Beyoncé cover this 2 years prior to the album coming out
10. Jolene - Beyoncé reveals her indignation over a woman trying to mess with her happy marriage and family
11. Daughter - she fantasizes over the murder of Jolene and then begins mourning in a haunting Italian Opera
12. Spaghetti - a social criticism towards American nationalists who used to call Spaghetti westerns made in Italy, unAmerican despite them hiring American actors, so she surprises everyone with a country accent rap song as a way to say, this is still country….
13. Alligator Tears - calls out peoples fake criticism and victimization.

14. Smoke Hour 2
Introduces the Modern Pop Country part of the album
15. Just For Fun
16. 2 Most Wanted
17. LEVII JEANS
18. Flamenco

19. The Linda Martell Show - forewarns us that Beyoncé is warmed up and about to start doing what she does best, which is genre bending to perfection to create unique art. Let’s us know the rest of the album is for fun.
20. Yaya - displays historic successful fusion of genres that created rock
21. Oh Louisiana - Let’s us know that her Louisiana roots are what educate her musical choices
Experimental Genre bending:
22. Desert Eagle
23. Riverdance
24. 2 Hands 2 Heaven
25. Tyrant
26. Sweet / Honey / Buckin
27. AMEN - a masterful close and social criticism that ties right back to the first song ❤️
MASTERPIECE!!!

I appreciate this reaction so much. The fact that you were honest and open means everything. And even though some of the songs might not resonate with you, you understood the importance and significance of her project as a whole while acknowledging there are people who will feel seen and that’s also just as important. You researched in real time and understood the historical undertones of the message but most importantly you weren’t dismissive. This alone I absolutely have to follow your channel. Thank you!

Buckin is a type of majorette dancing, which is a part of black southern culture

Renaissance was House and Cowboy Carter is country, so people are speculating that Act III will be rock, thus encompassing genres where the Black community have a deep history with but are often excluded from. But that's still just speculation, we don't know what she'll do for act III but it's exciting!!

The title of this album is interesting because Carter refers not only to Beyonce's last name, but also to Carter Family, a group considered as having made country music famous in the 1930s, while they stole the spotlight from black people
